8.12 Presenting images

Please note that this work is designed to be displayed in a gallery. You will first see an impression of how the work will look on the wall. You will then see a photo grid containing the six images for this piece of work. You will finally see the statement of intent for this piece of work.

You are encouraged to view the impression first without looking at the statement of intent to give you a chance to decode the work without context as if it were a puzzle.

Statement of intent

I will produce six images from landscape/architecture genre to show the changing views and framing of a landmark as viewed within a landscape. The images will be of a square format and will all depict the same subject.

I will capture the tower of St John the Baptist church in Chipping Sodbury from directly next to the base using a 24 mm focal length. I will then move through the landscape and capture further images of the tower, incrementing the focal length of each capture (35, 50, 70, 85, 120mm) in order of distance from the tower: the next nearest image at 35mm and so on until the most distant at 120mm.

The images will be displayed on a wall in a gallery in a 4x5 grid format. The position of the captured images in the grid will indicate the relative position of the location of the shot. Positions in the grid in which no image was taken will contain a simple green square to denote a background mapping layer.

This statement will be displayed alongside the grid, under a hinged flap to allow viewers to contemplate and decode the images without prompting, should they wish to do so.
