Shell & Vivo Lubricants PCR Packaging Launch in Partnership with Blowplast Limited & Mr. Green Africa

Shell & Vivo Lubricants (SVL) in partnership with Blowplast and Mr. Green Africa on 17th August 2023 successfully launched an eco-friendly 1-litre lubricant packaging- a post-consumer recycled (PCR) packaging option that emphasizes sustainability, reducing waste by converting waste to value, caring for the environment and using less energy.
The packaging is produced in partnership with Blowplast and Mr. Green Africa.  Mr. Green Africa gathers plastics from service stations and converts them into pellets before combining them with virgin material at the Blowplast plant to manufacture lubricant containers.

Total Energies also partnered with Blowplast and Mr. Green Africa two months back to launch its first 20-litre lubricant jerrycan made from recycled material. This validation recognises Blowplast’s commitment to reducing waste and advancing a circular economy through such great partnerships with its customers. Shell & Vivo Lubricants (SVL) continues to be the second lubricants company to partner with Blowplast on such sustainability projects, aiming to advance sustainability ambitions.

The event kicked off with opening remarks from Blowplast MD Mr. Sanjay Brahmbhatt who took the time to welcome everyone to the event. “This year this is the 3rd event we’re doing for PCR, and we will not get tired. We will keep doing it and we will put in our effort. That is where we can fulfil our promise of built for future and we’re committed to that.” he mentioned.

Shell & Vivo Lubricants Vice President Mr. Ashish Chaturvedi during the event expressed his joy with the three companies coming together and taking the PCR concept, putting it into practice, and taking it to another level. “I am very proud to be part of this initiative and the SVL management is very proud of SVL sustainability measures around this plastic pack”, he added.

The event was also graced by the presence of Mr. Green Africa CEO Sonia Orwa who continued with additional statements on sustainability efforts. “Today is a great moment not only for Mr. Green, Blowplast and SVL but for the world at large. We all know we have a very big plastic challenge and what we’re doing today is to show that we are taking action, not just stories on our websites, and that we are really taking the plastics in the environment and bringing it back and giving it new life”, she mentioned.

Mr. Green Africa Chief Business Enabling Officer Karim Debabe thanked all involved parties for their efforts in the project. “We put effort, additional time, and additional money into it. It’s not easy, there will be many challenges going down the road but I think as a team, in the partnership we will be able to even show bigger numbers and bigger success stories” he concluded.

The launch ended by unveiling the new 1-litre Shell & Vivo Lubricants packaging made from recycled material. Shell & Vivo Lubricants General Manager Mr. Phelix Ogolla concluded the event by thanking everyone for contributing to the success of the event and for a shared goal among the three companies- sustainability. Mr. Phelix appreciated the beautiful journey Shell & Vivo Lubricants has had with Blowplast since they both came together to do business.

In a short interview Mr. Phelix mentioned, “As part of our journey to be responsible to the environment, we have been exploring what we need to do with our packaging to ensure we ran a sustainable business, responsible to the environment and respecting the communities that we exist in. Therefore one of the initiatives we started was to review the content of our specifications in our plastic packaging, and the output is, we have now partnered with Blowplast and Mr. Green to be able to use post-consumer recycled material in our plastic packs to be able to deliver that sustainability goal”.

Blowplast continues to add value by fostering customers’ aspirations for quality, productivity, and sustainability. We are helping our customers advance to a circular economy through such great partnerships.
