How Dancing can Reduce Stress

I believe dancing is invented to take your body and soul to a whole new time and place where you can just express your feelings in a good way and have a good time. Through dancing, you are throwing out all the negativity and stress is one of them. Stress keeps you down and makes you lose track, then without knowing it, you are giving up. So, how dancing can reduce stress?

First the body.
We all know that dancing is a good exercise, right? For me as a choreographer, dancing is the best exercise. Stretching and flexing before and after dancing can already relieve the stress in your body. Dancing develops your strength, mobility, body conditioning, mental alertness, self-esteem and prevents sickness. With all of these factors going up around the world, they can reduce stress greatly. In fact, based on some research, after every good dance session your brain releases chemicals that are natural painkiller called endorphins. These chemicals help you stay calm and feeling good which relieve stress. These chemicals also help you have a good sleep, so goodbye stress.

Second is the mind.
Now our mind is a very powerful thing. When the mind feels that the body is in pristine and healthy condition, the mind communicates with every cell in your body and telling them to enjoy and have fun. Then you feel better and release stress. Dancing is fun right? It is spontaneous and you can do it anywhere you want to. In the studio or even in the shower as long as your mind and body is at peace then you are relieving stress.

Lastly, the soul.
Dancing is a creative outlet. You are pouring all your emotions and personality through your creativity in dancing. Now, when there is much passion in dancing, you are elevating your soul. When you feel that good about yourself, then you are doing great, changing your mindset and conditioning yourself. You can surround yourself with positive people who loves and enjoy dancing or your other hobbies and creative areas as much as you, that way you are not giving stress a chance to stay active. Now let’s not forget music in the mix. Playing your favourite track when dancing, wouldn’t that be perfect? That completes the package, a nice place, positive people around you and good music makes a fun and quality time with zero stress.

It’s like therapy for stress actually. You’re disciplining yourself to stay away from things that give stress and keep the good vibes. You can get all these through dancing. Join dance workshops  and events to see what I mean. So keep dancing every day to keep the stress away.
