LAKME FASHION WEEK X FDCI NEXA CREATOR'S LAB FEB 2023

This project was an Illustration Commissioned by the Lakmé Fashion Week for a competition called NEXA CREATOR'S LAB under the theme of "POP CULTURE"
Popular culture is recognized by members of a society as a set of practices, beliefs, artistic outputs and objects that are dominant or prevalent in a society at a given point in time.

MY CONCEPT
With the world turning to India for all its inspiration, be it yoga , meditation, science , art/craft and many more and with Celebrities such as DJ Khaled, Virgil Abloh, Harry styles, Drake endorsing Indian craftsmanship not just in terms of textiles or fashion but in other aspects as well.

The rise towards sustainable ways of dressing up, going back collecting and collecting heritage/ vintage pieces is what the future holds for the coming generations. While the trend of globalization has been the need of this hour, flipping the pages of Indian history when focus on traditionalism and an eye for detail is today's generation preference/ priority, sensibility of modern design while having an empathy for manual work by artisans , and adoration of different art and crafts is being seen a lot lately and would be prevalent in the coming years as well. With the rise of digital media meta verse in demand, there will be a huge segment for something vintage, something classy and something that has a physical touch to it.

This artwork/ collection has been created keeping in mind the Indian aesthetics of fashion , typography and textiles with a modern touch. The collection encompasses NEXA's hero colour nexa blue as one of the major components of the colours and its brand ethos to create, inspire, Global, innovative, reliable, pampering and excitement make it a good fit for the development into a print.
This illustration, is a diverse culmination of some of the prominent textiles of India, for example, Bandhani and Ajrakh from Kutch Chikankari from Lucknow, Jamdani, Baatik and Gamcha weaving of Bengal, Sanganeri block print of Rajasthan, along with the several other block printing techniques from India. The art work also encompasses Devanagari typography as one of the Key Graphic elements because Desi is Sexy !!
This conceptual artwork which represents my version of pop culture, using sustainability and crafts as a tool, was featured on the official page of Lakmé Fashion Week.
