An experiment which I have done for save the expenses for my self . This is a pencil case which is made by ropes, wood sticks and waste cloth. I wanted to design a pencil case which grabs the culture of my village with local materials. Since I’m engage with Architectural drawings I have to store the pens and pencils safe because of their expensive. For the safety of the drawing pens and pencils I got the idea to make this pencil case which would give 100% safety for the drawing goods.
‘Eco friendly Vesak lantern’
A vesak lantern made by Snake plant fiber, bamboo sticks, banana leaves. This was an experiment to explore the time limit that how long the materials will last. This is a zero cost work done by myself.
The snake plant fibers taken out from the snake plant leaves was a hard process. We need to scratch them from a blade or can put leaves in to mud/ water and leave it 5-7 days. This method is easier than scratching. After taking the fibers, we can add colors in to it. For this lantern, I didn’t want to add colors because to blend with the environment.
For the inner shapes of the lantern, I used bamboo sticks and banana leaves. The banana leaves dried and seasoned by putting them in to water. The whole process went through 4 weeks. This work was to have a self- satisfaction at the same time, to have a change what we doing every vesak festival.
