The illustrations are based on the writer Mo Yan's novel "Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out". The story's protagonist is Ximen Nao, a kind landowner who is executed during a land reform in 1948. Upon his death, he is reborn as a donkey, ox, pig, dog, monkey......Through the earthy and hugely entertaining perspectives of these animals, Ximen Nao narrates fifty years of modern Chinese countryside history.
The illustrations choose five expressive scene of the five animals in the novel, and take the wild style to reflect the novel's magical reality style.
这是为莫言的长篇魔幻现实小说《生死疲劳》所创作的系列插图。这本书讲述了地主西门闹死后不断地轮回转世：一世为驴，二世为牛，三世为猪，四世为狗，五世为猴……在西门闹沦为畜生的过程中，始终隐藏人的情感，而每次转世为不同的动物，都未离开他的家族，离开这块土地。而全书正是通过他的眼睛——各种动物的眼睛，来观察和体味中国农村的变革。
在这个系列作品中，我选择了西门闹分别转世为五种牲畜时最具表现力的一幕进行创作。基于《生死疲劳》幽默、讽刺、荒诞的故事基调和粗犷的文字风格，我也选择了具有视觉冲击力的插画风格，来体现这本书魔幻现实的氛围。
