“Seven Soda Cans” 2019-2022. Oil and pastel on recycled window blind. 10’x5’. This work (that is impossible to photograph properly with how shiny it is) was inspired from this book “Book of Flames”. “Book of Flames” is a child’s journal collected from a foreclosed property. I used direct quotes and mark making from the book and painted with childlike techniques, including painting with a toy race car, to further connect to the individual this book belonged to. Foreclosure effects everyone of all ages and finding this book in an abandoned home makes one self reflect and understand the privilege of having a roof over your head.
