Arthur Copes's profile

HBP - A “Silent Killer” that is Preventable

Active in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, community, Dr. Arthur Copes leads the Bio Wellness Center and provides naturopathic ways of maintaining and regaining optimal health. One area of focus for many of Dr. Arthur Copes’ patients is reducing elevated blood pressure to healthy levels.

Typically developing gradually over a period of years, chronically high blood pressure is known as hypertension. Its reputation as a “silent killer” reflects the fact that the body can become used to its symptoms over time. Because there is no sudden, major indicator that a problem exists, treatment may come too late. Of the more than one billion people worldwide with the condition, three-fourths of cases are untreated and uncontrolled and this leads to more than three million preventable deaths each year.

For this reason, regular health checks are a must. Hypertension can be positively identified when three measurements in a row using a cuff device display blood pressure in excess of 140/90 mmHg. Even after the condition is identified, much can be done to alleviate the symptoms. Basic steps include eating healthy and incorporating the right vitamins, enzymes, and minerals into one’s diet. In addition stress reduction, deep breathing, regular exercise, and proper sleep are important parts of the cardiovascular health equation.
