Exercise 3: Hierarchy of Needs and Hedonic Treadmill
Hierarchy of Needs
The infographic above is my attempt at displaying the Hierarchy of Needs, a motivational theory in five tiers where each tier below must be satisfactory before going up another tier. I didn't like seeing many infographics on this topic as pyramids so I took it upon myself to do a different take on the subject. For my take, I used the concept of stairs as everyone needs to take a step on one level securely before reaching another. I also incorporated icons to help convey each need in an informative way.
Hedonic Treadmill
The infographic above is about the Hedonic Treadmill, the concept that people will reach an equilibrium of happiness even with major events that occurred. For how I went about creating this, I looked up ways to show movement before settling on a pendulum swing. As I started working on the movement of the pendulum, I incorporated red, green, and blue as a way to show that good or bad things are happening as well as having a baseline. The colors were then desaturated and the pendulum itself was given a blurred movement and change in colors. The desaturated look was made to allow less distraction on the pendulum itself and allow the viewer to see more of the infographic itself.
