Mechatronics Bsc Final Thesis

My final thesis project was about an optomechatronics theme, completed with LEAN management theory and virtual production optimization trough MTM-UAS analysis.
The subject was an old Nikon D100 DSLR camera. It had multiple malfunctions, and was no longer functioning. I dissassembled the entire camera, step by step, Documented and identified the parts and their function.
Trough the dissassembly process I evaluated the effectivity and simplicity of construction and I was looking out for parts, which could've been better optimized.
The selected parts for optimization were the AF-sensor and the exposure metering module, located at the bottom of the center mirror housing.
I've measured the neighbouring parts and created a simplified, but functionally accurate 3D model in Autodesk Inventor
The next step was to visualise a possible workplace layout for these parts. I did some research how a camera assembly line would look like and I aimed to create a similar layout.
After establishing the assembly process on my first virtual workplace, I did a complete MTM-UAS analysis. This method gave me a standard timelenght, in wich the assembly can be done, by an average worker with good practice, for longer periods of time with multiple repeating. The next point was to find the steps, taking longer time, or being unnecessary tasks. Trough rearranging the layout and improving the tools, I visualised a workplace where the necessary time was far shorter.
I also improved the construction, trough integrating the AF-Sensor and EV-meter in one single part. Though the new sensor array would be more expensive, this design eliminates the too complex holding mechanism for the EV-meter, thus - as the third MTM-UAS analysis showed - halving the time needed for assembly.
For making this analysis and optimization as professional as I can, I did extensive research in every related area. My thesis includes 30 pages about camera technology and development history, mass production basics, LEAN management principles and MTM analysis theory.
