Naturally:
"Naturally" was a project that involved creating a series of three posters. The goal of the project was to design posters using only elements from nature. The process began with a lot of research, which eventually led to the creation of the final three posters. I will walk you through my journey in the following steps, and above, you can view the outcome of my finalized posters.
Mockups:
I used the posters I created and put them into different mockups I found on the internet. In the first mockup, you can see all three posters together (see above). In the second mockup series, each poster is displayed separately (see below). I also created mockups of the posters in different settings to give an idea of how they might look in everyday places (see below).
Pictures:
To start off this project, I went outisde and took different pictures, I mainly photographed different types of leaves. I noticed that including water into the shots made a really cool effect. As I took the pictures, I also gathered some of the objects I had photographed, as I was going to use them in the next step (see below).
Analog experiments:
The second step I took for this project were analogue experiments . After taking pictures and gathering objects, I spent a good amount of time turning them into useful materials. I used paint to create interesting textures. These textures/experiments played a role in the making of my final posters (see below).
Digital experiments:
Next, I moved on to the third step by making 15 digital experiments. I created digital experiments by applying a variety of filters, effects, and blending modes in Photoshop. Overlaying these digital elements onto my original photos resulted in different textures and images (see below).
Sphere/function:
After selecting my top five digital experiments from the 15 I made, I asked the opinion of my fellow student regarding the sphere and potential function they think that would match the image (see the results below).
Typography:
I had to choose a fitting font for the remaining five experiments based on the image and mentioned function (see below).
Helvetica:
You might've heard of the font Helvetica before, it's a popular font that had it's 60th anniversary in 2017. We were given a small project to make a poster for the 60th anniversary with very strict guidelines: we could only use 3 colors (black, red and white), a little bit of text and just one font (helvetica). I had to make the posters in illustrator, which was a new program for me, so in the beginning it was kinda hard to make them, but when I got the hang of the basics it slowly became easier (see results below).
Concepts:
I made a bunch of posters, each with a different lay-out, design or just something slightly different. In the end, I chose the three best ideas as my final posters. Below you can see all my concepts, and at the end, you can see my final posters.
