Children’s Wheelchair

A lightweight and playful redesign of the conventional wheelchair for children. Derived from the warm concept of handmade minimal toys, the wheelchair appears and feels less clinical than the cold hard archetype.

The back frame is adjustable and the seat is removable to enable larger seat replacements as the child grows. This wheelchair concept is also suited to adults in a contemporary indoor environment.
Lightweight design

The strategy to minimise the weight of each part was to optimise the structure and material for each parts to perform their intended function.

Using shape optimisation and static stress simulations, I located both areas where excess material could be removed while retaining strength, and structural stress points that needed reinforcement.
