How to Avoid Flight Delays When Traveling

Flight delays when traveling may seem inevitable sometimes, but there are still things you can do to avoid them during your next trip. There’s no guarantee that you won’t be affected by a flight cancellation or delay, but you can at least make them less likely to affect you.

First of all, try booking flights early in the morning. Flight delays tend to cause other delays and cancellations throughout the day, but most airports can usually get their first few flights off the ground without much trouble. This does mean that you’ll need to get to the airport very early in the morning, but it beats having to wait a couple of extra hours for a late flight.

Next, try to avoid connecting flights whenever you can. If you need to catch a connecting flight and your first flight is delayed, you could end up missing your second flight. If you must book a connecting flight, try to give yourself a couple of hours between flights, just in case there are issues with your first flight.

Finally, if you absolutely cannot afford to miss an event, try to get to your destination early. Book an earlier flight than you think you’ll need. If that flight is delayed, you should still be able to make it to your event on time. Even if your flight is canceled, you should have plenty of time to book another flight.

What To Do When Your Flight is Canceled

A delayed flight is frustrating, but you shouldn’t have any problems as long as you plan ahead. On the other hand, cancellations are another issue entirely. If your flight is canceled, you need to act quickly. Head to the flight agents’ desk as soon as you can. If you find yourself standing in line, get on the phone with your airline to see if you can speak with someone before you get to the desk. You might be able to solve your problem before you have to speak to someone face-to-face. You should hopefully be able to book another flight or at least find someplace to stay for the night if you’re away from home.
