Brief: To create front and back cover, spot illustrations for each chapter and full spread illustrated section openers for the book.
Synopsis:
Drawing from contemporary accounts, world history and mythologies, Trumpet Calls is an illustrated chapter book for young adults peppered with fascinating facts and illustrations, that explores the complex relationship between elephants and humans across the ages.
For the cover design, the concept was to explore a split frame showcasing the elephant’s part wild, part captive personality over the ages while playing important roles across various cultural contexts.
Spot illustrations from each chapter were compiled to create a full spread section/chapter opening illustration. This would provide a visual break as well as give more context to what kind of stories the chapter contains.
