"Private Snoring Symphony"

"Private Snoring Symphony"

"Private Snoring Symphony" is an artwork composed of two parts: a night hat and a book. The inspiration for the hat came from the Victorian night cup used for hair care and my father's loud snoring. The hat is designed to resemble a pillow, allowing wearers to experience their own private symphony of snoring. Its concert hall shape encourages wearers to imagine themselves as performers of their own symphonic composition. Through this artwork, I aim to challenge the negative connotations surrounding snoring and promote a more positive and enjoyable perspective. Snoring doesn't have to be an unpleasant experience; it can be a fun and creative one.

The accompanying book captures the sounds of a night's sleep using musical notation instead of recordings. It serves as a unique musical score that documents the various sounds of sleep, from the tossing and turning when unable to fall asleep to the soft snoring upon drifting off, the louder snoring in deep sleep, the snoring alongside a partner, and the sound of waking up to an alarm or birdsong. This book is like a chronicle of the experience of sleeping, providing a special way to record and remember the sounds of a night's rest.
