An Overview of Tapping for Stress Relief

Also known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), tapping combines elements of Chinese acupressure with modern psychology to reduce stress and anxiety. Research indicates that tapping lowers cortisol in the body, a hormone released when a person experiences stress. Not only does stress inhibit the immune system and make individuals more vulnerable to illness, it has also been linked to sleep problems, weight gain, digestive issues, and depression.

Tapping involves the rhythmic tapping of nine specific meridian points throughout the body while focusing on negative emotions. This tapping sends a calming signal to the brain, reassuring the body that there is no immediate physical danger and thereby reducing cortisol levels.
