QUT IMPACT LAB 2 - PEOPLE. DESIGN INTENSIVE CHALLENGE 2021
GROUP MEMBERS: PATRICK WOLFE, JASON OSBOURNE, ELIZA TENNI, FEIYANG LING, DONG FANG, EMMA DUMBLE
Across three days, the Impact Lab Design Intensive was a project to connect students to industry community initiatives and organizations. My group was working with Talk Revolution - a community focused organization aimed at reaching kids with resources to have discussions around mental health, identity, sexuality and consent. The brief was to formulate a design solution to a problem that Talk Revolution was facing. The design solution we presented was to expand the conversation beyond the school space shifting the focus to involve young people through sporting clubs. This solution can be achieved through rolling out online advertising campaigns on social media apps and fostering partnerships with local sporting clubs. Our proposed design solution follows:
1- CREATE A LARGE ONLINE PRESENCE
2- TO ESTABLISH COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGEMENT SECURE SUBSCRIPTIONS FROM SPORTING CLUBS
3- PROVIDE BRANDED SPORTING EQUIPMENT
4- DELIVERES THE CONTENT AND INITIATES THE DISCUSSIONS IN A SAFE SPACE IN THE SPORTING CLUB TO THE KIDS
The design problem was to connect more young people to Talk Revolution. My group devised a proposed strategy so that the resources of Talk Revolution is still getting seen by kids-  we brainstormed a way to make this happen was to go through sporting clubs and create the safe spaces for these discussions to occur there, utilizing the mentor- student/athlete relationships that already exists.
PROPOSED STRATEGY: AUDIENCE TARGET SOCIA MEDIA CAMPAIGN ROLL OUT
The first part is to increase the advertising. Rolling out Talk Revolution campaigns onto various social media apps, this helps establish Talk Revolution within the community, being seen by kids, parents and community leaders/sporting clubs. Expanding the target audience beyond the school forum will allow more community partnerships with Talk Revolution to initiate. We propose a shift in its focus from the school space to sporting clubs- reaching young people beyond the classroom.
TALK REVOLUTION BRANDED SPORTING EQUIPMENT
THESE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS WILL BE A SUBSCRIPTION BASED PROGRAM. THE CLUB WILL PAY TALK REVOLUTION IN RETURN FOR BRANDED SPORTING EQUIPMENT OR ASSOCIATED SPORTING GOODS IE CAPS, WATERBOTTLES, BALLS, T SHIRTS, PENS, TENTS. ONCE INITIATED, THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TALK REVOLUTION AND THESE SPORTING CLUBS WILL FOLLOW THE CLUB’S SPORTING SEASON, WITH A TALK REVOLUTION DISCUSSION TO FOLLOW EACH TRAINING SESSION OR GAME. THE CLUB CAN WORK ITS WAY THROUGH THE TALK REVOLUTIONS MODULES VIA DIGITAL MEANS OR WORKSSHEETS/DISCUSSION POINTERS.
IMPACT OF PROPOSED STRATEGY
SO, THE IMPACT THAT OUR IDEA FOSTERS IS:
CREATE A LARGE ONLINE PRESENCE.
1- TO ESTABLISH COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGEMENT
2- SECURE SUBSCRIPTIONS FROM SPORTING CLUBS
3- PROVIDE BRANDED SPORTING EQUIPMENT WHICH IN TURN
4- DELIVERE THE CONTENT AND INITIATE THE TALK REVOLUTION DISCUSSIONS IN A SAFE SPACE IN THE SPORTING CLUB TO THE KIDS

OUR SOLUTION IS NOT CHANGING THE TARGET AUDIENCE BUT HOW WE CAN REACH THEM. OUR SOLUTION IS THE LINKING DEVICE BETWEEN THE YOUTH, THE CLUB, THE COMMUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE CONTENT OF TALK REVOLUTION.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOUNG KIDS HAVE THE ACCESS TO THESE RESOURCES THAT TALK REVOLUTION PROVIDE. TALK REVOLUTION CAN BETTER EQUIPMENT THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF THE FUTURE WITH THE SKILLS TO BE WELL EDUCATED, CONFIDENT AND EMPOWERED LEADERS FOR TOMORROW. BY HAVING THESE DISCUSSIONS TODAY, THEY WILL BETTER THEMSELVES FOR TOMORROW.
