In recent years, construction management has been improved through the integration of drones on construction sites. Before drones, aerial photographs of job sites were extremely expensive. With the introduction of drone technology, construction companies can purchase affordable drones for approximately 95-percent less than previous aerial photography costs.

Since 2017, the number of drones on job sites has increased by 239 percent. Drones can map large areas over long distances, which allows construction managers to make quick decisions based on real-time information. For example, a drone can determine the volume of a pile of dirt, so managers can estimate how many truckloads are needed.

Drones also can be used for security, which protects companies against liabilities related to personal safety and equipment loss. For example, drones can keep an eye on equipment and materials, which helps reduce theft.
