I'm working with a palette now and trying to keep it to a minimum as I don't like to use too many colours in my work. Working out your palette up front is a good habit to develop...it keeps your illustration disciplined and helps avoid going off in tangents battling with yourself over colour choices later on. Of course you are free to change your mind but it helps having a sense of how the artwork should look...the kind of tone you want to project in a piece. The colour of the ingredients will really determine the palette in this illustration but I don't want to stray from the basic eight I have. I decided earlier that I would use carrots in the piece so I could use orange as stand out colour. It's also important that I am aware of the colour balance as a whole and that the colour composition works. What do you think so far? Is it making you hungry?
