I recently stepped down as CEO and Founder of RescueTime, a B2C/B2B freemium company that helps businesses and individuals understand how they spend their time and spend it more productively. The company is thriving/growing and I still serve as an advisor.
Career highlights include:
* I've designed products that users love. Search for "RescueTime" on Twitter! My previous design effort got the following accolade from Mike Arrington at TechCrunch: "Anyone building a new web company with search features should take a look and consider, cough, copying their interface. It’s really exceptional."
* I've been quoted on the front page of the NYT (where RescueTime was covered twice). I led the PR efforts that got my companies coverage on NPR, BusinessWeek, WSJ, and more. I was interviewed on CNBC and FoxBusiness, as well.
* I've written several linkbait posts that went viral and brought our niche freemium business hundreds of thousands of new visitors in a single day.
* I've founded 3 companies, 2 of which I sold.
* I've really enjoyed public speaking and evangelism. I've spoken at the Web 2.0 conference, The Churchill Club, and more.
* I led the fundraising effort for RescueTime, which resulted in seed funding from Y Combinator and a Series A led by True Ventures.
Previously, I was employed as Director of Product Development at Jobster in Seattle, WA. Jobster purchased a web property I launched just 3 months after it entered public beta.
Before I launched Jobby, I owned my own web app development firm in Anchorage, Alaska. Founded in 1996, it grew from two guys working out of my house to a thriving consultancy with 15 employees and half a dozen contractors. I've worked with organizations such as Jobster, Monsanto, Jockey Underwear, TrueValue Hardware, the State of Alaska, University of Alaska, General Communications, Inc, Unocal, and more.
From a design POV, I'm way more interested in UX/product design/marketing/seo than "art" (though I do believe in making things pretty). Read Less
