My name is Victor Leonidas Cabrera. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic where I started my studies in the field of graphic design. I am currently enrolled in the Master of Graphic Design program at the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University, from which I will be graduating in December.
I would lie if I said that I wanted to be a graphic designer since I was a kid. What I can say is that as I grew up I liked to draw and paint. I also recall being a harsh critic of advertisements and being drawn to different graphics and identity systems. I believe this came from being exposed to many billboards, signs and graphics from my daily, two-hour, journey to and from school.
After being in the graphic design program at UNAPEC University (Universidad Accion Pro Educacion y Cultura) for one year in the Dominican Republic, my family and I moved to Danbury, Connecticut. My lack of knowledge of the language kept me from continuing my studies right away. I had to put school aside to focus on learning the language and help out with the finances at home.
In August of 2001, I was accepted as a transfer student at Western Connecticut State University, where I continued the Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and graduated with a double major in graphic design and photography.
While enrolled in my undergraduate studies, I worked in different places (a factory, a sign shop, at the University and others), the positions that I held have enriched my knowledge and thought process in graphic design.
I would describe myself as a fast learner and a leader. I am ready to face any task or challenge with determination to complete the task or overcome the challenge. I would also describe myself as a life long-learning and a team player. I enjoy expanding my knowledge of advances in graphic design and photography. Some of my hobbies include playing basketball and tennis (which I am still learning).
