I am a graduate of Fine Arts High School in Bucharest, I have a bachelor in Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest, faculty of Art History and Theory, and currently a 2nd year student in the Master Degree program at the same university. During my studies, I have been continuously confronted with the inner universe and the structure of works of art, at different scales. I have studied the mural painting techniques, panel painting techniques either on wood or on canvas, and also painted furniture. My intense activity in the domain, lead to a better understanding of how works of art have survived to the passage of time, and what made them resist. The more profound study of the materials that form the works of art has led me to domains of physics and chemistry. This way, I had a better understanding of many of the basic laws of physics and also the interaction between materials that are put in the creative process, and I’ve started to understand the link between the science of painting and its message.
The possibility I was given during my academically studies in Conservation and restoration of Works of art, to study and understand the relation between the technique of paintings and its meaning, had startled my imagination and resulted with the need to experiment through painting some of my self-philosophical problematic. The traditional 15th C. Flemish oil painting technique seemed to fit best with my artistic concepts. The use of transparencies, of coloured transparent layers was the best technical method that could enhance the final message of the subjects represented in my paintings.
The antique philosophical concept of „human being, as the center of the universe” is being exploited in different kinds of representation in my works. The universality of many laws in Quantum Physics seems to form together a spiritual world with infinite dimensions, represented in my paintings by some major symbols. The symmetrical compositions have been a continuous feature, given its reference to the infinite possibility of representation of reality. Since symmetry has been a pattern on which biologically forms of life have formed on, a dialogue between the reality that surrounds us-nature, and the abstract reality that each individual has the liberty to create in its own inner universe, is a major theme that I explore. The graphical simple pattern, represented in all my paintings, works either as a „curtain” that hides/reveals the master-show of beautiful natural landscapes represented in a realistic manner (hills with patches of forests and high-grass prairies) or in an abstract manner (representation of night skies filled with stars and lighted by a full moon); or it is a symbolist representation for energetic waves, that contribute to a better description of physics concept-the relativity of time, the forces of energy, or even representations of atomic particles behavior.
In general, the representations, often surrealist, aim to the same concept. The parallel existence of realities, the one which is given to humans-either by a spiritual creator or by the forces and laws that govern the universe which in the same time represents the basis of rationality, and the other one, which coexists and which is created by human mind representing the dimension for emotional contemplation. I tend to believe that their coexistence is a natural equilibrium in which the human is the center of the Universe. Read Less
