I like repetition and contrast. I am attracted to organic forms such as a seed pod or beautiful flower. Everything I draw from life I regard as a portrait and try to capture the personality of the subject.
I draw nearly every day. When I draw an object it is as if I am touching it. I look with fresh eyes considering every detail. The pen becomes an extension of my arm and moves quickly over the paper describing the form. Drawing is an intuitive process.
I draw mainly with Ink directly onto a blank sheet of paper in the knowledge that it cannot be erased. Ink is ideal for producing crisp marks and fluid lines that communicate both the delicacy of a petal aswell as the density of a thick stem. I find the unforgiving nature of ink exciting.
I combine energetic drawings with flat, circular blocks of colour. The circles detail patterns and repetitions. Circles have numerous meanings. For me, they are perfect, almost synthetic shapes that sharply contrast my drawings of natural structures.
I completed a foundation year at Chelsea Art College and graduated from both London College of Fashion and Sir John Cass Art School with Bachelor of Arts Degrees. In 2009 I had my first solo exhibition at Riverside Studios and showed in the Mall Galleries as part of the Sue Ryder Exhibition. I live and work in South West London. Read Less
