I was born at the very top of the eastern United States in Fort Kent, Maine. My first memories of wanting to be an artist were drawing with my mother and envying her skill. After moving to Iowa, I was introduced to photography through a friend. She and I did dozens of “photo shoots” with cheap point and shoot cameras. Through learning to edit our photos on Photoshop, my interest in graphic design also developed. This practice would pay off when I continued to pursue photography and graphic design at The University of Northern Iowa.
At UNI I learned to be proficient in digital and analog photography in medium and large format films. I learned black and white and color film development and printing, spotting, cutting mats, and gallery preparation of photographs. Through Graphic Design courses I became more experienced in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
My junior year, I was given the opportunity to work as a design intern at Edgecore, a direct marketing agency, where I learned more about the Adobe software and was given the opportunity to contribute to their company with my designs for newspaper and direct mail advertisements. I was also the Art Director of Inner Weather, the student run literary magazine at UNI. There I was responsible for selecting student work for publication and the design of the magazine and promotional materials.
After my first year of college I created Teacup Paper Goods as a personal creative endeavor. I try to put all of the skills I have learned at UNI into my greeting cards and other paper gifts. Through this I have gained many design and photography skills, as well as business skills, in the creation of a variety of products to sell both online and at craft fairs.
I also have had the opportunity to do freelance graphic design and photography work for various clients, including the Jordan & Kaleigh student body president campaign at UNI, post-rock band Followed by Ghosts, and Wide Water Press. Read Less
