After a short career as an Art Director in various London advertising agencies, I switched to photography, working first as a local photographer in Oxford, UK before moving to the Middle East to work for the United Nations. I later spent a year covering the Eritrean/Ethiopian war for various agencies and newspapers while also working on a major cultural heritage project for The World Bank.
I am a member of Panos Pictures in London, and as a regular contributor to the New York Times for the past eight years, I have shot portraits of celebrities and normal people, including Oscar winners, Nobel Prize winners, rock stars, famous artists, politicians, and ex-US Presidents. My work has also appeared in National Geographic, Newsweek, Time, Stern, International Herald Tribune and The Guardian Weekend magazine.
My recent personal projects include: ‘Paranoid Britain: A Walk Through the Surveillance Society’, ‘A Beautiful Relationship in The Westminster Village’, and ‘The Walls of Murcia: Golf Resorts in Spain’. i have just finished shooting my first documentary in Sydney.
I also lecture and run regular photography workshops around the world and now divide my time between London and Sydney. Read Less
