Stephanie Power is an accomplished illustrator and graphic designer who began her career at Reactor Art & Design under the mentorship of creative director Louis Fishauf. Her illustration work, a pastiche of plastic-fantastic-little-girl-on-acid collage, took off in 1998. It was then that she began to create numerous book covers for Hyperion Books, Penguin, Harlequin, Roaring Book Press, Groundwood and Random House. Her editorial clients have included ELLE, Entertainment Weekly, Fashion 18, Seventeen, YM, InStyle, TV Guide, the NY Daily News, Baltimore Sun, The Wall Street Journal, Today’s Parent, DOSE, Glow and MORE magazine.
Using both her design and illustration skills, she has created brand campaigns for the Eaton Centre, Fairview Mall, Liberty Boot Co., Doll Factory Studios, Nickelodeon and Hasbro Games. With Fishauf, she designed two series of Christmas stamps for Canada Post and assisted in art directing the Reactor Artwear line of illustrated t-shirts. She has also designed books in collaboration with other illustrators, notably Henrik Drescher on the award-winning “The Boy Who Ate Around” and Maurice Vellekoop on “A Nut at the Opera” and “Vellevision.”
She is inspired by all aspects of pop culture, particularly street fashion, 1950’s décor, early 20th century photography, and vintage pin up art. Currently she can be found wandering around and experimenting with her iPhone’s Hipstamatic photographic app. Already creating buzz, one of her photos was selected as “best in show” by musician and producer Danger Mouse, as part of Hipstamatic’s Dark Night of the Soul competition.
Her work has been honored by the AIGA, the New York Art Directors Club, Applied Arts, The National Magazine Awards and the ADCC. She currently teaches illustration at OCAD University in Toronto. Read Less
