I have been fortunate to come from a creative environment. My family were huge music fans and I grew up listening to the Beatles and music from the 60s genre. My dad was a keen artist and would sketch portraits of my sister and me. I naturally followed in his footsteps and began developing my own artistic style.
From an early age I submerged myself into the skateboarding culture and was a fan of Rockabilly, Psycho-billy, Punk and 80s Hip Hop. My love of music and the art surrounding these styles continues to influence my work today.
In 2000 I graduated from a HND course in Design Photography. After college I moved to London to pursue a photography career. I worked for the NME magazine on a freelance basis, photographing bands and solo artists such as Goldfrapp, Jack Drag and Tahiti 80. This experience gave me the drive to develop my own freelance business and apply my personal ideas and interests.
My photography style has developed over the years. I have moved away from the traditional dark room and ran head long into the world of digital photography. My techniques focus on the use of software programs (Photoshop) to manipulate and create my images. My photographs are shot in real time, however the final image can take an average of 10 to 15 hours, using a hand full of photographs layer upon layer.
I have always enjoyed incorporating humour and the unusual into my art. As I grew personally and professionally, I developed an interest in darker imagery. My passion for horror has had a large impact on my photography and I now enjoy executing zombie and vampire themes. Recently I have been chosen as one of the 20 finalist to have there work exhibited in the Bizarre Resistance Rising art competition, run by Bizarre magazine in association with London's Resistance Gallery.
I have also worked with individuals from many backgrounds, such as burlesque dancers, punk rockers, gothic girls, pin-up models and tattooists. My photography also takes me to the mainstream where I have created images, but usually with a twist.
I enjoy working with individuals who wish to be involved in the creative process. My approach is to create an image that stimulates your mind and provokes a sense of illusion. Welcome to the world of Scott Henderson photography! Read Less
