Born 12th September 1984 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Moved to Paris in 1990, and lived there 11 years. The British School of Paris gave me an insight into the varying aspects of a multicultural society at a young age. Adjusting to this sudden change was an exiting experience, my age allowed me to adapt to the language barriers and taught me how to socially interact outside my usual comfort zone.
Alongside being schooled in an English system in France I also began playing rugby for my school and local village. I captained both squads for some time and took great pleasure in the camaraderie and social atmosphere that came from them, especially leading my squad to win the Ile de France Championship in 1998. My ability to communicate and understand the French language is something that has been beneficial to my life.
In 2001 my family and I moved to Farnham in Surrey where I began my schooling at Frensham Heights School. I was a mentor for the younger years (7,8,9) at Frensham Heights during my AS and A-Levels and above all I learnt to the true meaning of patience. My geographical interest led me to The Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme, which I achieved a silver level, but had to withdraw due to a back injury sustained playing Rugby. I partook in many school performances, not to fulfil a passion for the theatre, but to exhibit my more flamboyant side and learn how to communicate to crowds. This came in use in my later years at school when I joined and helped run the debate team.
After achieving my higher education I began studying at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham, (now known as (Farnham - UCA), where I remained for a year and achieved a diploma in foundation studies for art and design, specializing in media. Personally, I felt I had to attend a university further away from home to gain knowledge of how to fend for myself and manage my finances. I then began studying a degree in ‘Creative Design with Marketing’ at The University of Northampton to further my interest in the way advertising works, ‘How to convey information, how to understand today’s media and how to decode the ever-growing world of advertising.
I have always been looking for ways to exhibit my creative talents and advertising felt like a right path to follow. My studies taught me a lot about the way the industry functions and how creative advertising and marketing is key to implementing change, be it towards products, services or even society. I gained a lot of team building and group work experience throughout university and soon came to realize that a poorly managed team is difficult to control but when controlled it works wonderfully. In a brief set for the Ann Summers lingerie clothing line I was the only male in a group of 5, and our team came top of the year for creative inspiration in our advertising and design methods.
My interests have always lied predominantly in the creative side of advertising. I enjoyed learning the varying aspects of marketing, however my talents were more creative based. I entered into the ‘YCN’ and ‘D and AD‘ competitions every year at university as part of my course, so I have a good understanding of the requirements and expectations of today’s briefs. Read Less
