Character artist Renze Leenstra was born in the northern part of the Netherlands and he resides there still. Always having a strong interest in computer graphics, he studied Communication & Multimedia Design and earned his Bachelor in 2009.
In part thanks to the open structure of this degree, he took all opportunities to get into contact with the many subjects on offer and gained a broad experience in media design.
During this time he also spent one incredible semester in Tampere, Finland where he enjoyed the cold weather and survived the hot sauna's to follow courses in Video and Photography at the School of Art & Media.

His passion for characters and giving shape to things kicked off in 2005 when he discovered 3D modeling and found enjoyment in bringing these objects to life through animation.
After an intermezzo of experiencing different fields in media design, he reunited with his former love for characters just in time for his graduation project in 2009. This time creating his characters on the 2-dimensional plane, he produced and created an animation short. During this project he once more recognized how much enjoyment you can get out of adding character to your...characters.
Spurred on by both this enjoyment and his teachers, he decided this was really the way to go and from that day forward he's kept on drawing, drawing, drawing

A short stint at one of Holland's biggest web design companies in 2010 brought him in touch with a team of talented artists and affirmed for him once again his true heart is in wielding the (digital) pencil

Now, Renze makes a living as a freelance illustrator and enjoys the freedom he has to improve his skill and perfect his style. With no formal training in art, he teaches himself by watching and studying other artists around him and making what he likes his own.
His work can be recognized by his expressive characters, tight vector lines and colors that is by some dubbed 'evil disney'. Read Less
