I am an architect with a passion for design and the visual arts, these include forms of architectural representation, drawings and illustrations; photography; and graphic design and now infographics.
Whether explicitly or implicitly, I think every designer develops an approach to design and a philosophy about their work. I take a thoughtful approach to my work, thinking that design is a careful balancing of many influences and requirements. Somewhere in the intersection of these influences is, for lack of a better term, the essence of a project, that which gives a project life. It is this essence that for me makes architecture an artform and that connects with people.
I enjoy working through complex information to find the seemingly simple and refined expression that captures the essence of a project or idea; to find order in chaos or complexity.
Often driven by tight budgets and schedules, a key focus of my architectural work has been an attempt to find some poetry in simple materials, looking to create visually interesting textures and a human scaled materiality. My aim is always the creation of spaces that engage often employing a precision in order and rhythm that works through every element in a space in a way to hush visual noise to allow larger moves, such as day lighting, to take center stage.
I have come to believe that the responsibilities of a designer go far beyond client satisfaction, for which he is certainly responsible, to include a stewardship of the greater good. This greater good includes environmental awareness and contextual integration and sensitivity. Read Less
