Hi, I’m Nat Remy, illustrator, toy collector, and founder of Radical Kid. Starting at the tender age of 7, I loved to draw. I spent hours drawing cartoon characters of my own. Early on, I was inspired by the bright, hand lettered album covers in my dad’s reggae collection; these became my drawing references. I later developed my own style, using vivid color palettes and hand drawn script typography in my designs. As a senior in high school, I was commissioned to paint four canvas panels in acrylic for my first client. I went on to receive a bachelor’s in technology in graphic design at New York City College of Technology, an associate’s in cartooning at the School of Visual Arts, and a certificate in web/ flash animation at Fashion Institute of Technology. I am currently pursuing an M.F.A in interactive media management and creative art therapy.

Since 2004, I’ve been working as a freelance graphic designer. Working on some of the most exciting projects in brand identity and original illustration inspired me to start my own company. In 2007, I started Radical Kid, a studio and brand. I sold silk-screened t-shirts, printed canvas tote bags, and spray painted bottle cap earrings at flea markets in New York City, as well as working on commissioned designs. Being an illustrator and designer, I play with different styles, mediums, and strategies when producing design solutions.

In addition to growing my studio and brand, I have become an experienced arts educator. For the past eight years, I’ve taught a wide range of leadership workshops and fine arts and design courses throughout New York City. Currently, I teach fine arts and graphic design courses to high school students in Harlem. Students who have studied with me are now graphic design majors at several universities throughout New York State. I enjoy teaching; it’s as natural to me as making art. My students keep me young, and I am proud to teach.

As an artist and business owner, my goals are to continue exploring with fine arts and design, to make vinyl toys out of my characters, and to eventually open a Radical Kid School of Art and Design.
