KHAMPA,LORDS OF THE GRASSLAND(REPORTAGE)

Khampa are a proud nomad population living in the eastern side of tibetan plateau. They have been known for centuries as skilled traders and great travellers heading periodically to the likes of China, old Yunnan reign as well as Vietnam.Their community is strongly based on nomadism and yaks breeding.According to the need for new pastures they move erratically through a huge territory commonly defined as Kham always not residing in the same location for more than three months. They live in some kind of handmade tents inside which there is a fire on working as central heating and kitchen.During the night they store inside the tents, along with the family, the baby yaks in order to prevent them from any possible wolves assault.Khampa deeply believe in lamaism religion and in the power of chanting mantra"Om mani pad meum".Sometime entire families undertake epic pilgrimages to sacred tibetan spots. The story of this proud ethnicity is well known by western governments as they were the only ones trying to face chinese invasion thanks to the financial and military support of CIA worried for the raising of communism. This lasted untill Nixon visited for the first time China right after this event USA stopped funding them and Khampa were forced to surrender to Beijing regime even opposed by Dalai Lama himself fancing a more peacefull solution for the conflict.Nowadays they are reduced in small communities suffering the immigration from traditional China and the lack of pastures caused by new riches buying acres of lands. This is resulting in internal fights often sorted out by violence. The purpose of this coverage is to give visibility to a proud and ancient population physically marked by elevation and hard winters, plus with no rights in his motherland.

HUTONG,A FADING REALITY(COLLECTION)

China is quickly becoming the low cost world manufacturer with the wise approval of its governement always keen on signing agreements with the major worldwide corporations.
A country considered as one of the last comunist outpost is magically turning toward consumerism under the effect of this strong economical push. The result you may observe everywhere is a big costruction site with the old buildings crushed in a bunch of rubbles and the new skyscrapers challenging the polluted atmosphere.A general welfare can just be noticed in few individuals belonging to the new rich class nothing compared to the huge number of farmers daily commuting from the coutryside to make a living.Chinese governement is clearly taking advantage of that as to work in a place if you are a "non resident" is involving the need of a "special" permission unless you do not want to join the black market industry earning less than 20yuan per day and running the risk to be sonorously sentenced by the regime.
The hutongs which used to be the characteristic chinese district with shallow houses and narrow streets teeming with kids traders and craftsman are slowly disappearing giving their space to new modern buildings and western style roads. What is going to be with all the people who used to live in there?Packed and moved to new suburban areas in some kind of concrete bee hives with not a remote chance not to be able to afford the rent.Ikea generation is probably the only band of people, sons daughters and realatives of party members, who received a more global education and so able to speak english;what about the other ones the government in the past years boasted of having taught them to read and write? What if you have been living in some kind of isolation untill now and you can just write and read ideograms? In your opinion are they likely to afford paying an expensive western english course? Will they go to university?Well look at this images and tell me if you all idealistic people living in the confort of your warm living rooms will keep dreaming about something ended up in a spectacular failure.....

TOKYO RUSH,LIVING IN THE FASTLANE(COLLECTION)

This collection of pictures is aiming to show how fast japanese society is and how often less importance is given to the individual looking at him just as part of the production chain. The result of years working 355days on 365 has generated many internal contradictions splitting the community into the young heads willing to relocate abroad and trespass the traditions and the aged ones still linked to their ancient rituals. In between we have a middle generation hiding vices and showing plastic virtues in the name of forefathers.Modern buildings and cutting edge technologies are something obvious to associate with Japan as well as shyness and formal politeness:let's take a ride in the land of the last train running and the rush to get on it....

UNITED WE STAND(REPORTAGE)

1959 a bunch of brave men cross the Himalaya range escaping from Tibet invaded 2years before by chinese communist army.Bhusang 29yrs old at that time is one of the man escorting Dalai Lama in the getaway from his beloved homeland to find a shelter in the nearby India ruled by the moderate prime minister Neru known to have been a fervent Gandhi fellow.
March 2008 China violently fight back Tibetan peaceful demonstration to celebrate the memory of that event.Figures talk about 130people killed following the consequent uprising and hundreds of panzer settled around the major monasteries. The Dalai Lama immediately makes a plea to the world talking about a cultural genocide.
Different countries disdain the behaviour of chinese regime even underlining how China will be soon hosting the olympic games but none of them take an official position.French president Sarkozy announces he will boycott the opening ceremony while Mrs.Nancy Pelosi USA congress speaker condemn Beijing decisions drawing criticism from chinese president Hu Jintao.
The peaceful exiles protest rise in every location where they reside in India but its pulsing heart is in MacLeod Ganj home to the exiled tibetan government.Hundreds of youngsters and seniors along with monks and nunns from the local monasteries and nunneries peacefully march on the streets of Dharamsala and Macleod singing the praises of Dalai Lama and the lost freedom. Many of them escaped from Tibet through the harsh himalayan winter trying to find a better life in an enviroment similar to their native one.Young students supported by a good number of nunns begin an hunger strike to commemorate the deads and to urge a reply from public opinion.
The pride of a population deprived of his motherland is clashing against the mighty olympic machine fuelled by the increasing interest in the world most powerful manufacturer.A peaceful approach toward a drastic situation is a clear example of fortitude over any kind of brute strenght from a regime whose president studied in a famous american university and is known to be an innovative leader.A non violent drag force will always triumph over military repression and will trigger a positive chain not letting the world citizens indifferent.Let's all give these silent heroes visibility we have a lot to learn from these peaceful hooligans whithout forgetting how huge is the human life potential:HOPE IS STILL ALIVE!!!FREE TIBET!!!
There is nothing against chinese valiant population to whom I EXPRESS MY SOLIDARITY for the victims of the earthquake.
IT IS ALL ABOUT LIVING TOGETER CREATING VALUE DAY AFTER DAY.

WE ARE SLUMMERS(REPORTAGE)

With 20.000.000 inhabitants, more or less legally registered,New Delhi is becoming more and more appealing to thousands of farmers living in the nearby flat countryside where life conditions do not always guarantee a decent average standard for everybody. This huge urban enviroment is hence turning into a massive dream for poors reaching the city hoping for a chance of improvement by realistic low odds fulfilled.Even if the monthly wages may be higher than usual they do not exceed the big city expenses and set these categories way down below the poverty threshold.Nearly 4.000.000 people live in what is worldwide called slums or according to the different locations JUGHIES/SHANTY TOWNS.Squatted areas scattered with cobbled tents or uneasy shacks made of recycled waste and any kind of material worth to be used as shelter. These sorts of hells on earth are often rising close to railway stations and motorways or inside government properties along Yamuna river banks at least untill the beginning of the monsoon season.
The dingiest part of the population, generally Islamic due to a more equal approach to human beings than the strictly caste based hindu faith, is normally residing in Nizzamuddin and Jasola areas, with the last one sadly known for the recent evacuation executed by the authorities forcing thousands of people to look for a new place to stay.Similar settlements can be found almost everywhere and individuals belonging to the lowest castes as rikshaw drivers and manure cleaners can pay up to 1000rupies for a place in these campsites where electricity is illegally stolen from other powerhouse and several families share one drainage letting the imagination to figure out the igienic status of the location.
Considering all these issues India with its huge cities is still the largest world democracy where slums inhabitants are massively going to vote in case of elections as a considerable plaudits tanks for corrupted politicians. On the other hand local gangsters, often arised to the role of religious leader rather than convicted for bloody murders, agree with questionable party chairman in order to direct the slummers choice in the event of polling.
WE ARE SLUMMERS is the portrait of an India where processes are slower if you consider the nearby chinese competitor ruled by a totalitarian regime, but home of an hope increasing along with 3% of population yearly rised from poverty and a 28yrs average age foreseen in 2050.
