I have been interested in art since the age of 13. My public school focus was mostly in forms of art and music and not much on academics. I concentrated on fine art (painting, pen and ink, drawing, commercial art and sculpture). As a senior, I was the Art Director of my high school yearbook and worked mostly on creating a traditional portfolio to get accepted into a design school or college. I received a few awards in the local area and was headed to college. I worked on a few projects of my own and was involved in a documentary where I learned black and white photography and the developing process.
I earned an Associates Degree in Video and Radio Production at New England Institute of Technology. It was here I actually learned how to design on the computer. The platform then was Amiga and the programs were Lightwave 3D and Deluxe Paint. Although I excelled in video and radio, the challenge of 3D animation was more to my liking. I attended class during the day and worked nights (graduating with honors) and went out to find work in the video field.
I had to learn how to operate a Mac and the Adobe suite of programs before anyone would hire me as a Graphic Designer. I enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design's Continuing Education Program for Graphic Design. Within 6 months I started my first job as a Graphic Designer and currently still work in this field after 15 years. I have worked in many different industries and have endured many late night deadlines. Whether it has been printed or on the internet, I think I have done it all.
Photography came into the picture in 2001 when I managed catalog production for a retail company. I started doing the product photography which then included working with models in a studio setting and then on locations. We created a few lifestyle magazines and I led and planned the photo-shoots in Turks and Caicos and Grand Cayman.
Each year I try to make a few trips to a different location and cover the area as if I were on assignment. National Parks are frequented the most and other select locations are carefully researched before hand. Read Less
