Prior to my arrival at the O'Carroll Group the Gateway covers were mainly photos with the title floating over them. This year we attempted to do a series of concept covers. This was the first of the series and meant to show that the Port of Lake Charles received and shipped goods all over the world, then distributed them across the country.

The second in the series was meant to show how the Port of LC and the local chemical industry work hand in hand.

Here we high lighted bulk cargo and it's importance as opposed to packaged goods.

Our most recent cover was a move away from the simple vector look. We wanted to stay in the concept cover realm, but for this particular issue we need to show how the Port of Lake Charles and a particular shipper had formed a partnership of sorts. We opted on the tired handshake cliche and gave it a bit of a twist to show both sides of the partnership. We needed a cover in a hurry so we had a quick brainstorm session and captured our ideas in my sketchbook.

Maybe not our most creative work to date, but it did get the message across with a nice simple graphic. With the addition of Peter O'Carroll's creative play on words the whole thing came together nicely.
