About Nicole Collins
Costume and wardrobe.
Nicole’s work in costume has so far been dominated by film based projects, including both short and feature films, video and art installations, advertisements, corporate videos and music videos. Her work has covered the areas of costume design and making (including pattern making and garment construction), wardrobe sourcing, styling, wardrobe supervision, costume assisting and costume standby. Previous work has included music video ‘Cat & the Eye’ Van She (Modular Records), video installations ‘Enter the Twilight’ and ‘Plat du Jour’ by video artist Cassandra Tytler, videos for both Coles and Kmart, amongst others.
Formally trained with an Honours Degree in Fashion Design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Nicole worked heavily within the fashion industry before transferring her skills to costume. Previous experience has included interning with Sydney based designer Kirrily Johnston, garment production for internationally recognised label LIFEwithBIRD, and cosetry at Marianna Hardwick Bridal Couture.
Nicoles’ extensive research into fashion and costume history, and her employment within the vintage clothing industry has equipped her with an in depth understanding of historical clothing and its’ context.
Nicole has also worked on a number of self-initiated projects including the ‘Undercoat’ parade during ING Transeasonal Australian Fashion Week 2006, working on an installation exhibition ‘The Fox and the Crow’ earlier this year, and writing for Melbourne Fashion Magazine ‘Poster’.
