Canadian multimedia artist Michael Poulton specializes in painting, collage, installations, found art assemblages, drypoint print making and copper repoussé. He has had 21 solo exhibitions and over 120 group shows in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The artist’s work is in major public and private collections and his collages and copper work have both been reproduced in The Sciences, the Journal of the New York Academy of Science, as well as other books and magazines. He has also collaborated on large scale architectural glass and public art projects both in Canada and the United Kingdom. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council, the New Yorker Creativity Competition, the American Niche Award and 10 awards from the Ontario Association of Art Galleries.
He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and educated in London, England at the Camberwell School of Art and the Epsom and Ewell School of Art. He is past chair of Artspace, the artsit-run-centre in Peterborough and an active board member since 2003. He is the founder and curator of The Museum of Temporary Art, a conceptual gallery and critique on museums and art institutions. Read Less
