Miki Alcalde was born in Spain in 1979. He studied marketing in Madrid and the US, completing an MBA in international marketing before working at Magnum Photos in New York for a year in 2003. He then spent two years travelling extensively throughout South America, the Middle East and Asia, nurturing his passion for street photography, resulting in a series of pictures that later became his body of work entitled ‘Solitudes’.
In 2006 his focused changed from black&white to color, and from street to documentary photography. Miki was based in India in 2008 working as a freelance for Getty Images and international publications. It was then when in Bangladesh he met Safia Minney, CEO and founder of the Fair Trade fashion company People Tree. They both have been working alongside ever since, in more than 20 assignments, documenting People Tree’s producers in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bolivia, as well as documenting press trips of Emma Watson, Liz Jones, Jo Wood and Laura Bailey.
