I am currently working as a full time Design Assistant at Carlton Publishing Group. This position was offered to me as a result of a successful freelance period working at Carlton Books, as I had proven to be motivated and professional. At this time I had the opportunity to design the intro media and vinyl animation for the eBook for the group Queen. I had to consider that the design and music was consistent to the overall design theme. The software ‘After Effects’ was utilised to achieve the results and ensure that the Ebook was compatible for the iPad. I attended the press release for the 40 Years of Queen: The Enchaned Ebook at was attended by Brian May.
My main responsibility at Carlton Books is organising book fairs and sales trips. This consists of producing ‘dummy books’, pop-ups, front cover presentations that support different departments in the company such as UK sales, marketing and foreign rights. I have the ability to plan, prioritise, project manage and ensure that deadlines are consistently met by communicating effectively as a team player with the different departments. I have organised an extensive list of books for various book fairs, such as London, Frankfurt, BEA and Bologna Children’s. This has supported the sales team tremendously and that the books have enhanced the very well designed exhibition stands.
To support this work I have also photographed the ‘dummies’ and these have been used as a sales tool to promote new books. I consider myself to be a team player and have attend regular meetings to discuss design aspects of new publications and ensure that current market needs are met, this ensures that Carlton Books remain competitive and modern.
I am a passionate creative graduate who is extremely hardworking and eager to be a successful Graphic Designer. Through studying a BA Honours Graphic Design course I have gained the perspective on how important, valuable and varied that graphics can be, which shapes and can influence our everyday lives.
I have proven skills in this field and have developed media for a variety of purposes, such as E4 Estings that have been entered for a competition. I have proven and developed skills of a variety of software’s, these are Abode Creative Suite CS4 and CS5: InDesign, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, as well as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
I am a self motivated individual and I completed a self initiated final project for my degree was a game that I researched and designed to teach first year students about typography features which is a fundamental aspect in graphic design; this included a choice of typeface, designing a logo, choice of colours to suit the package. The game design featured producing an instruction booklet, card games and game board; I ensured that a consistent theme was designed for the game as a whole to provide a sophisticated and elegant visual.
Working in retail, Topshop and Topman, for three years provided an opportunity for me to further develop my interpersonal skills. My professional and empathetic approach ensured that relationships within the team and customer were managed and built upon, to ensure that a seamless service was provided. Designing a bestseller poster for Topman; also I developed a PowerPoint presentation that showcased a unique pillar design shoe stand that utilised space for Topman.
As a highly motivated, hardworking individual, I always strive to succeed. I value teamwork and my interpersonal skills naturally allow me to evolve and be adaptable to the needs to the business. I look forward to an opportunity to discuss how my skills could complement your company’s environment.
