Matt Gilbert and Dave Tokley
We met at an agency called Comma – once part of the Publicis empire. Dave was a bald graphic designer seeking a change of direction. Matt arrived with hair, hired to be a ‘floating copywriter’. We became a team. We bickered. We won some pitches. For the sake of team branding, Matt went bald too. Things changed, Comma came to a full stop. We got drunk. We freelanced. We joined VCCP.
There we had the chance to work on O2, some of it wasn’t bad, lots of it was blue. We worked on the Home Office “Know Your Limits’ Anti-Binge drinking pitch. We won. Later that year we created two characters called Ed and Omar who spent their time chasing escaped pouches of Capri Sun – whilst drawing attention to their 100% genuine juiciness.
Then we left.
We freelanced again. We won some awards. We plotted our next move. We did some work at glue London. We liked it. They liked us and asked us to hang around. We hung. Read Less
