THIS IS MY STORY, AND I'M STICKING TO IT.
Beginning as a graphic design and painting major at Louisiana State University
(BFA 2007), drawing letters and setting type was an immediate infatuation.
For a couple years after, I designed at Object 9, a marketing, public relations
and creative firm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Next, entering the School of the Art Institute of Chicago exhibited a mode of interdisciplinary thinking in Visual Communication (MFA 2009) and exposure to letterpress printing, writing and student teaching. At The Newberry Library of Chicago, I viewed typeface design specimens such as Oswald Cooper’s Cooper Black and 15th century manuscripts. Also during that time, I worked as a graphic designer at an international product and packaging design firm, WebbdeVlam, in Chicago.
One year later studying at the University of Reading (UK) in the Typeface
Design program (MA 2010), I am armed with a new typographic skill set and
independent research capabilities. Returning to States, I spent one year
designing at boutique ad agency, Spark Branding House, in Tampa, Florida.
My expertise is in print design with an emphasis on typography. I have
experience in developing identity and brand systems, packaging design,
publication design and web design. My passion for typography extends into text
and display typeface design (for Latin & non-Latin scripts), letterpress printing
and hand lettering. I also enjoy documenting type found in 3D environments.
As creative designers, I believe we can all tell stories. Fewer agencies are
most interested in whether the best ownable story gets told or if it can be
heighten by high craft. Will this story be best communicated through mere
shock and disruption, I personally think otherwise. I strive to create stories
which are seamless, strategic and lasting. I see design as more than a great
piece of product design or an amazing logotype created in isolation. It is all
about creating the right compelling story, crafting the essential pages as a team
and providing a new engagement for the right audience. Read Less
