If you have ever been to NYC, visited places like the Village or NYC clubs and lounges then you know it is no easy task to stand out from the many wild and crazy looking people walking all around. But with his Jelly Roll style, that is exactly what Mark Birnbaum does. However, don't be fooled by his outlandish looking outfits and appearance. Mark Birnbaum has been featured in the nationally syndicated "Joe Franklin Show" seen at WWOR-TV, Channel 9 NY, from 1989 to 1993. During that span he performed in well over 500 appearances.
Mark Birnbaum was raised in Brooklyn, but he ended up attending and receiving a Doctorate in Music Composition from the prestigious Columbia University. His ragtime piano style has led him to sell many CD's while performing in quite a few lounges in NY and all over the world.
Dr. Birnbaum also performed at the weekly show "Hot Piano! Ragtime Blues and Jazz" at the 13th Street Theater in Manhattan. These shows paid tribute to the music of Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton as well as taking the audience back to the glory days of Ragtime jazz and blues music.

Some people who see Mark Birnbaum walking around Second Avenue, the United Nations or anywhere in the City while wearing his eye catching platform boots, Mink coats with a cigar in his mouth can't help but stare. Some say he reminds them of an earlier version of Sir Elton John.

Dr. Birnbaum also teaches piano right out of his 20th floor Manhattan studio apartment. He also likes to take daily, long walks around East 48th Street as he considers this an integral part of catching that "New York City's street vibe". Read Less
