The scope of my work has involved the creation of interactive sites and Apps for children’s publishing & youth projects, advertising, TV and film supporting projects, banner ads, various specialist consumer sites and multilingual versions of all the above.

I am an award winning developer with over 14 years agency experience. As well as developing I also enjoy using my skill set as a producer to work closely with all the other members of a team to bring the various elements together in a flash environment. • AIR for iOS and AIR for Android developing apps and games for iPhone, iPad and Android Devices using the Starling Framework, Citrus Engine & Box2D

• Clients I have worked with include: CMC Markets, Dahl & Dahl, Disney, Discovery Channel and Templar Publishing (to name but a few) to produce original and exciting interactive experiences.

• Extensive experience working with internal and external screen designers, programmers, 3D modellers, copywriters, translation agencies and project managers to bring the site together in the flash environment.

• Extensive experience filming, editing and integrating green-screen footage and voice-over audio for use in interactives as well as encoding video for various formats for use on streaming video platforms.

• Much of my flash work is driven by content management systems and I am highly experienced in integrating client side flash with server side CMS systems (ASPX.net, CFM & PHP) using XML.

• Project genres include: Micro sites, virals, games, kiosks, video integration, production and encoding, banners & MPU’s (AdForm, DoubleClick, Flash Talking & MediaMind), AIR for iOS / Android & vodcasts.

• I enjoy experimenting and producing projects using the less frequently used features of flash such as web cam for motion detection / interaction, microphone api for noise level activated interaction and exciting features available on iPhone and iPad such as the gyroscope, GPS, swipe & gesture interaction.

• I have good inter-personal skills due to extensive client face-to-face liaison during a projects life cycle. This requires good communication skills to manage expectations of delivery, time and costs. I thrive on working within a team to meet these objectives.

I hate hats. When I say hate, I don’t mean I hate them as an article of clothing, they are o.k. on other people – but just not me. They don’t suit me. The only time I wear a hat is when it’s really cold and I’ve got woolly hat that my wife gave me just for that purpose - and it never stays on any longer than necessary… it makes my hair look like a bowl head. I hate having bowl hair too. So apart from when Jack Frost’s about – you’ll never see me in a hat.

Now that we’ve got that cleared up, you may be wondering why I am ranting on about hats? The reason is that I seem to have 2 other hats. Proverbial ones. One of them is a AS3 / AIR developer hat. I think I’m a good developer. I have developed some nice sites and some nice apps and some nice banners. I’m not going to try and blow my own trumpet, but my clients seem to be happy with the work I produce and I keep getting asked to do more for them, so by that token I think I must be a pretty alright type of developer.

The other hat I don on my proverbial head is a producer one. It’s a hat I seem to be wearing more often recently. Working with a brief and the creative team to put together a project once it’s hit the desks – getting things moving – working out what’s needed, who’s gonna do it and by when. I like taking the brief and working up the ideas based on what I know we can do with the technology, then working with the designers, programmers, 3D modellers, copywriters etc to put the whole thing together. Sure – any of the AS3 / AIR development parts – that’s my bag and I’ll get on with that too. I’ve worked like this with many of the projects you’ll see in my portfolio. The clients I have done this work for seem to like it. I’ve been asked to do more work based on this arrangement, so I think I must be an alright producer too.

I did once try on a third type of proverbial hat. The designer type. It didn’t stay on long. I’m not a designer. Definitely not a designer. I could show you some of my design work, but I won’t. You’ll laugh. Always get the professionals in – that’s what I think. Anyway, I digress. On the same foot, I don’t mind just getting involved with only the development side and equally I don’t mind getting involved in just the producer side too.

You could call me a developer with producer skills? Or a producer with developer skills? I don’t know – you decide. For now I’m just gonna call myself a Developer / Producer. Or Marcus. That’s what my wife calls me. Most of the time. Read Less

I live with my lovely wife Hayley and our 2 children. During my spare time I like to spend as much as of it as possible with them and our friends – I’d be in trouble if I didn’t. I am rubbish at golf, but I enjoy a round or two in the summer. I also enjoy running. Well, actually I enjoy the sense of achievement when I finish running. The actual running part isn’t so much fun.
