An Integration of Macro Digital Photography and Jewelry

Artist Statement

The big picture. People get distracted by this everyday. It’s hard to focus in a world of advertisements and flashing lights. Have you ever just stopped and stared at a shape or form that distracts you for no apparent reason? Maybe you’ve asked yourself if you are the only one who has noticed something that seems so obvious, but at the same time, completely invisible.

The focus of my body of work is two-fold. At first, it can be taken just as a another collection of jewelry. A collection that I, initially, inadvertently sought inspiration from my previous studies in archaeology and anthropology. As I look back, each and every piece reminds me of a different culture, past and present. I’ll let you, the viewer, determine which ones on your own.

For the other side of my work, I literally want you to look close. I mean really close. So close, you may not recognize the object itself. If you take a photograph, what do you see? Color, shape, and form. They may look like unearthly landscapes. But, in reality, you can fit them into the palm of your hand. With something that small, there are so many possibilities. So, go on and look.
