Profile
Who am I?
Kelly McKernan is an emerging artist and illustrator in the Atlanta area finding recognition for her strange and fanciful paintings. Much of her work is a result of Kelly’s fascination with building odd situations by collecting items and ideas, taking them out of context, and plotting them in a space together and watching them interact. As an illustrator, she is also naturally attracted to narrative and concept and welcomes her viewers to interpret and thusly generate the bizarre tales her work is intended to invoke.
Kelly’s paintings employ unique mixed media techniques. Much of her work involves water media, such as watercolor, gouache, tea, bleach, and ink, and often includes unconventionally combining film photography upon distinctively textured surfaces.
Currently, Kelly is finishing her final semester at Kennesaw State University, expecting a B.F.A. in Fine Arts with a concentration of Painting & Drawing in May 2009. When she isn’t painting, Kelly enjoys baking cupcakes, playing video games, discovering new music, and thrifting.
