My name is Kirill Mazor. I was born in Lugansk, Ukraine and emigrated to the United States in the early 90s. Currently I live in Chicago, IL and am studying Film at Columbia College of Chicago.
Since I was younger I've always had a passion for film as well as a fascination with human psychology and the mind. I definitely feel my greatest interest lies in understanding the world and using mediums such as film to portray such understandings. I consider myself a critical thinker because I'm always delving deeper into what our culture feels and believes about reality and how science is attempting to explain those perspectives or find new ones entirely.
When it comes to film, my forte would have to be editing. I've been cutting up video for as long as I can remember; starting early in middle school. Since then I've set it upon myself to learn all of the best available tools and methods to refine my skills and better understand the medium and its abilities. As a result of these interests, I discovered a happy expression of all of it through VJ-ing. I really enjoy it because I feel that its a combination of my two strongest passions (film and psychology). There is something so tantalizing and often entrancing about created artistic visual imagery. I often use this imagery to emphasize the two distinct worlds I find myself inhabiting; our modern, technological world and the natural world from which we evolved. Through this type of imagery I draw attention to their collision through their simultaneous and constant evolution. Although this is where I find my focus in my own film work and VJ work, I often specialize the visuals I am producing to the type of event or the performer that I am creating for. I think of my work as always evolving and changing because my artistic self and personal views are continually growing.
With this mindset, I'm consistently putting 100% of myself into whatever type of art I choose to create, project I choose to start, or collaboration I choose to join, in hopes of making an impact on any audience or observer to the work. A previous professor of mine would always tell me, "The true meaning of any piece of art lies halfway between the piece itself and the person observing it."
This is the type of reasoning I use to my advantage in any project I undertake. Read Less
