Kim Zwarts was trained at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht, the Netherlands. As a photographer, he has worked on several books on architecture devoted to Thom Mayne/Morphosis, Gerrit Rietveld, Antonio Gaudi, Alvar Aalto, Moore Rubell Yudell, Wim Quist, Charles Vandenhove, Wiel Arets and Dom H. Van der Laan, among others. In 1988 and 1990, he photographed the complete work of the Mexican architect Luis Barragán.
His work of art has been published in Pale Pink and Kim Zwarts - Beyond, and has been exhibited at, among other venues, at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Netherland Foto Instituut in Rotterdam, the Berlage Instituut in Amsterdam, the AA in London, Maly Manezh in Moscow and at the ' Biennale de la Photographie ' in Liège, Belgium. During this years he realised commissions of art for several companies.
Zwarts won the Kodak Award in 1989; he was also awarded the Werner Mantz Prize in 1997.
