Kate Fagerstrom, born in rural New Jersey, grew up loving the aesthetically pleasing, which she found in crafting and reading. Following this love for design and beauty she went off to Rhode Island School of Design for their PreCollege Program, where she learned the fundamentals in Graphic Design such as logo and identity design, basic typography, and the importance of a figure ground relationship.
Following High School she chose to attend Maine College of Art; there she learned type design, page design, book design, web design, logo design and so much more. During her Junior year she was able to intern with a software company Fetch Softworks and test the waters in web, interactive, icon, and product design.
That following summer she was chosen to go to New York and intern at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in their Books and Special Projects Department. There she assisted in the designs of several publications including the 2010 Halloween Special Issue, and the 2010 Holiday Cookies Special Issue and was on hand during the photo shoots for the Holiday Cooies Special Issue. During her time in New York she learned several important skills needed for a Professional Designer such as patience and teamwork, as well as finding the a love for publication design and flowing type intricately and beautifully onto a page day by day. She is currently a Senior Graphic Design major at Maine College of Art looking to work upon graduation in publication or type design. Read Less
