Karen Arango is a freelance photographer and black and white silver gelatin printer. Her photography works are mainly documentary and specializes in portrait photography.
Karen was born in 1990 in Bogotá, Colombia, but in 1991 she moved to Medellin, Colombia; where she lived until she immigrated to the United States in 2009; where she began nurturing an eye for contemporary social issues in her homeland and abroad. While living in the US she finished her preparatory studies. During high school she got certified as a Digital Designer. Then she got her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with Photography and Digital Imaging as her concentration form Ringling College of Art and Design. During her college studies she was selected to attend the International Center of Photography in New York City in 2011. Then in 2012 she received certification for the completion of the one-year full time program in General Studies in photography. That same year, during her last year of college, she got selected to work in collaboration with the Sint Lucas University of Art and Design, Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium and Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. Following her college graduation she worked as a freelance black and white gelatin silver printer at Phototechnica Inc. Here prints are made for the Magnum foundation and used for exhibitions, or book publications. Currently, Karen works as an Americorps VISTA in Sarasota, Florida. Read Less
