I create sculptural ceramic vessels from stoneware and porcelain that feel both organic and modern. Abstractions are made from my memories and observations: the rich texture of plants and rock; the elusive movement of wind and sea; the folding and stretching of textiles. I begin by throwing each form on the potter’s wheel with thick walls. The “dance” begins in the carving and manipulation the clay, exploring and pushing the limits of the material. Using simple glazing to accent rather than overtake, I create tension in contrast: matte and glossy, light and dark, inner and outer. The work that results feels new, yet, familiar. Read Less
