Joanne Davies was trained as a botanical artist where detail and accuracy were paramount. However dissatisfied with just recording what she saw, she began experimenting with different styles and media and over the years has come to realise that her artistic journey has taken her along a path towards what she considers her own style.
Today her work is influenced by the world around her, particularly by the objects, colours and patterns she sees. She finds a rich source of inspiration in the ancient world using images and artefacts as the basis for her works of art. No longer ‘playing safe’ by faithfully recording every detail but now interpreting them in her own unique way. She describes her work as realism with an abstract twist.
At the start Joanne is often uncertain whether the initial idea will eventually be a painting or a sculpture. It is only as she develops the work that she settles on the form of media she will use.
It the beginning of her career she was unsure about what she was trying to create, her art remained very personal to her. Joanne now believes she has found her artistic voice and is excited about the evolution of her work. This knowledge has given her the confidence to share her work with everyone. Read Less
